About Me

My name is Thomas "Slappy" Moore. Ive been interested in MotorSports since i was young. Followed Formula One ever since it was aired on American TV and still do to this day. I also enjoy watching Le Mans, DTM, WRC Classic Can-Am, Hill Climb, & just about any Touring or Cup series race. Oh yea, CART used to be great back in the day but now its gone. (RIP Greg Moore)

Ive always wanted to be involved in some sort of MotorSport but (i thought) i couldn't afford it, or be lucky enough to have been put into Karting like M. Schumacher at a very young age. Although, i was lucky enough to discover Drifting and be pretty good at it right away.

Enter Clubloose. I used to go to their "Drift Out Wednesdays" years ago just to spectate then a few of my car buddies talked me into doing their events, which is the best thing i decided to do. Never looked back.

While most of the events i'll be attending will be Clubloose drift events,  i would like to venture out to some US Drift events at Summit Point WV and also do some NASA HPDE's with my buddy Casey who is an instructor.

Enough of my passion for MotorSports. I also dig music, as long as its loud, evil and heavy. I was in and out of bands as a teen. Played a few parties, bars, and recorded a few songs at KenMar recording studio in MD, but that's as far as it went. Lost interest and now i only mess around with my acoustic every now and again.

Now onto friends & family. Couldn't of made this far without them. Thanks to all my home town friends and car buddies for all your help and my Mom and Pops for their support.

A few years ago, Sande from Drift411.com did a feature on me. I recently re-read the article and thought it would be a good idea to update it and add it here.

When and how did you get into drifting and/or other motor sports?

Well , I learned about drifting in the summer of  2002 when I was sitting in a waiting area in a speed shop when a mechanic walked up to the TV and put a tape into the VCR and said "watch this shit"! What I saw blew my mind. It was an all girl drift team from Japan. I couldn’t believe their car control and how they were sliding their cars so close together around the track. I sat there and watched the whole tape. Come to find out this tape was of course Option Video. That’s what got my hooked. I bought tons of JDM magazines and videos and watched them with my friends. Never looked back.

What was the first car you used for drifting?

My trusty 240 that I have now. I learned to slide my car in its stock form and I'm a strong believer in getting to know your car before you change your car. Every part on my car was tested by me to make sure the part had a positive function. To many kids these days buy these cars and automatically they want to throw in faster motor or install a ton of parts all at once before they even drive their car at an event.

How did it work out for you?

It worked out fine, and still does. I love the feel of my car. To me, it’s definitely a driver’s car in my opinion. I would not have minded learning in an AE86 since some say that’s a good chassis to learn in and you would be an all around better driver/drifter, but I do ok in my S13.

What was your most practiced technique?

Well of course, when I first started out it was all feint with ebrake to get use to the feel of the rear of my car sliding out. I was having fun with this technique so I stayed with it for awhile. Then as time went on I learned through my friends about more advanced techniques like clutch, braking, shift etc. But i still love the sidebrake for early entrees ect.

What is it like now?

Its better now than it ever was. People talk about "the good 'ole days" back when everyone drifted on the streets or before drifting blew up, but to me, doing all the events i can is where its at for me.

Where are you looking to improve?

Enter harder, enter faster, East Coast style!!

What types of events have you participated in?

So far only drift events. No regrets.

What do you find challenging?

Keeping up with the more experienced drivers or doods with higher HP cars, but its all fun so watever.

Who are your influences?

When i first got into drifting I looked up to drivers like Akinori Utsumi, Fumiaki Komatsu and the Drift King. While i still respect those cats nowadays i really dig those Team Burst cats from MSC & that crazy Toshiki Yoshioka from D1.

What modifications would you like to have in the future?

If im ever going to make it into A group or be able to Tandem, i need a roll cage. Other then that i wouldn't mind some exterior changes. My footwork is pretty much done besides custom knuckles.

What are your future plans in drifting?

Keep at it and attend as many events as i can. I know I’m not getting any younger but at the same time i definitely haven't felt my age yet. The thing that keeps me going is the fun factor of drifting and the fact that a lot of members in our group are all around the same age. I'll do this as long as I’m able.

What are your thoughts on the future of drifting?

Well grass roots drifting will always be great, and where its at for me. I'm not a big fan of how much money is being dumped into our American Pro series. You don't need a fleet of 90ft trailers just to campaign one driver and one car.  At the same time i want to wish the local drivers that made it into Formula D this year good luck.
